EVERY remake has at least one ghost in it, the specter of its original, and ghosts, everybody knows, do not take kindly to being disturbed. The makers of horror movies should understand this better than most, yet they persist, like dedicated mediums, in trying to raise the spirits of the dead. And increasingly, the uneasy departed of places halfway around the world are turning up at Hollywood séances, rapping on the table, spelling out cryptic messages on the Ouija board and generally doing their damnedest to make us swoon with fright.
