I’M just an actor,” Benicio Del Toro likes to say. But in his case that explains a lot. On the screen he is known for playing dark, tortured, even threatening roles. In person he is open, humorous, self-deprecating. What he really wants is the lead in a romantic comedy.
“Put out the word, man, put out the word,” he urged with a laugh. “I’d like to mix it up. I’d like to play something a bit lighter.”
